On The Market Great Views Inside And Out Distinguish New Colonial

Owners of the newly constructed Colonial at 3 Tupelo Road will have their choice of places from which to sit, relax and enjoy the view from their home, which sits in a section of Westport near the Fairfield border.

It features a covered bluestone front porch, a long, wrap-around raised bluestone patio and a balcony accessed from the master bedroom suite, all of which have views of a pond that abuts the property as well as across the street.

The "view" inside is also attractive. It was designed by Megan Robertson of MLR Properties. The front door opens to the entrance foyer, which has a hardwood floor with a darker wood border. Unlike most houses, the formal front staircase is not immediately visible. It is not even accessed from the foyer, but rather a hall between the living room and family room.

The living room has a fireplace with a honed granite surround. The wet bar has the same granite on its counter. The bar area also has a hammered nickel sink, glass front cabinets and a wine refrigerator.

Rounding out the living room are the exposed beams but the beams are not rustic and raw, as would be seen in an antique Colonial, but smooth and painted, as is more suited to modern construction. In the formal dining room features include a coffered ceiling, bump-out bay area, and recessed paneling on the wainscoting that decorates the lower portion of the walls.

The spacious gourmet kitchen features Carrera marble counters and contrasting dark granite tops the sizable center island. The island is two-tiered and has storage drawers and cabinets. A palladium window frames the sink area. There is also a built-in desk area. The backsplash comprises large, white ceramic subway tiles. Appliances include a Thermador Professional six-burner range, Thermador double wall ovens and a Sub-Zero refrigerator.

At the back of the house between the kitchen and family room there is a breakfast nook which has two long window seats, both of which have under- seat storage.

The family room has a wide stone fireplace with a red brick firebox. Two sets of French doors and a slider lead to the wrap-around patio and to the backyard of this 1.31-acre property. The patio on the back of the house is covered and on the side of the house, closest to the pond, is open. The family room has the same beams as in the living room.

Found throughout most of the house are transoms, allowing for lots of natural light to flood each room and views of the natural setting.

Among the numerous amenities found in this house is a corridor off the kitchen to a wing that includes the first of two laundry rooms, a mudroom, full bath and access to the garage. The mudroom has a built-in cubby area and a door to the front yard. Both laundry rooms have granite counters.

On the second floor there is an office or play room that has French doors, rather than privacy doors. It also has a palladium window.

The master suite features a marble, gas-fueled fireplace, walk-in closet and a marble master bath with a soaking tub, two separate vanities and a water closet. The finished third floor has two rooms with a shared bath.

Driving up the paved, Belgian block-lined driveway, the two-car garage gives the appearance of being a separate, detached, barn-like structure. But it is actually attached and has a bonus room above it.

Construction began on this 6,690-square-foot house in 2012 and it awaits its first family.
